Your life is a reflection of your thoughts. Look around and ask yourself, “What have I been thinking? ”
All of the experiences in your life have been the result of the thoughts in your past. What is important today is to chose carefully every thought you think. Be selective for these thoughts are forming your experiences of tomorrow. The truth is, the thoughts you think in this moment create your future. Therein lies the power to control your own destiny.
Buddha said, “Watch your thoughts, for they become words. Watch your words, for they become actions. Watch your actions, for they become habits. Watch your habits, for they become character. Watch your character, for it becomes your destiny.”
Chitta Vritti Nirodha
The point of power is in awareness. Many of us let our thoughts run away like a wild stallion. In yoga we refer to this as Chitta Vritti Nirodha, “mind chatter,” or monkey mind.” Being aware of our thoughts in each moment is where we can begin to make the change. Shifting our thoughts from the negative to the positive takes awareness and practice.
Meditation is a valuable tool in making this shift. It is like clear, clean water that washes over the pebbles of thought we have accumulated over our lifetime. Many times these thoughts are not even ours, but that of our parents, teacher, employers, friends, lovers, or even enemies.
Your future is up to you
Retraining the mind to think in a positive way takes discipline and practice, but the pay off is priceless. Your future is up to you, one thought at a time.
Use the following affirmation or mantra for positive thinking.
Today I choose positive thoughts. I am in total control of every thought I think. My thoughts create my future.
