Ziggy Marley made famous the quote, “Love Is My Religion”.

The Beatles simply stated “All You Need Is Love”.

In his song Here to Love, Lenny Kravitz wrote;

“We’re not here to judge

We are here to love

There’s no room for hate

We are just one human race

We must rise above

We are here to love

There’s no time to waste anymore.”

So why do we as humans find it so hard to love ourselves and others? The first two commands are all about love. We find in Matthew 22:37-40 The following quote by Jesus,

“Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.”

There in lies the rub…love thyself! This is where so many of us struggle. It might have been easier if Jesus had said, “Love thy neighbor as you love your pet”. In that context we can understand pure unconditional love.

Even when our pets irritate us by leaving a surprise on the carpet we still love them unconditionally. We would never think of throwing them out of the house or not speaking to them again because of a little accident.

“Love is a state of Being. Your love is not outside; it is deep with you.  You can never lose it, and it cannot leave you.”-Eckhart Tolle

But do you love your neighbors? I don’t even know my neighbors other than a brief hello. I have to admit that a few of them I barely tolerate. But, Jesus didn’t say to us “Tolerate your neighbors” he said “Love your neighbors” which is second to “Loving your God”.

“If you don’t find God in the next person you meet, it is a waste of time looking for him further. -Mahatma Gandhi

God is the vibration of unconditional love. I believe if we can master the first commandment, loving God with all of our heart, the rest will come. The only way we have access to this vibration is turning our attention on God. When we welcome God’s love into our lives, we begin to see the world in a whole new way.

The White Angels tell us the following;

“Align yourself to God. God is unconditional love and eternal joy. One can only feel happiness and ever-new joy when in alignment with God.  Practice positive thinking and kindness.  See the spark of God in all creation-every man, woman and child.  See God in every creature great and small.  Find God in the sky, sun, moon, stars, trees, oceans, mountains, and deserts.” The White Angels (excerpt From Stilettos to Wings)

“God loves each of us as if there were only one of us.”-Saint Augustine

God’s love for us is limitless, unceasing and unconditional. When we view ourselves, our neighbors and the world around us through God’s eyes, we too can see the magic and beauty that surrounds us. Knowing that we are divinely loved brings strength, peace and beauty to our lives.
